The Storybook Ending: Poetry

So Sayeth Eve:

"Maybe be we were both
wonderstruck and tongue-tied
after drinking the elixir of primal decay

Watching the light fall on the scant buildings
erected from the ash of carnel houses
filled with the last generation’s bones

Our eyes could not forget
those awfuls days of suffering
too forgone to mention

Yet your blame struck me
as if I had set it all into motion
with my bare and bleeding hands

Had I known that I'd spend eons
being sacrificed to your Image
in every myth and fable

I would have warned you
it was inevitable that we'd wind up
standing amid the Wastelands of Civilization:

There simply is no other way
for Our Story to end."
