Gloria & Anton: Poetry

The car service was inept,
the storm unexpected and
we were a pair of longtime friends

I'd danced through a divorce,
you rebounded from her death;
knowable strangers on vacation
seeing solace from the tide

Then came the evening at the diner,
the mix of bacardi and hilarity;
the way your eyes sparkled and
I blushed when you touched my hand

We did not mean to fall for each other
while we were playing bumbling tourists,
convinced that we were satisfied
with our solo existences

Yet our uncontrived feelings
amid unconventional moments of clairty
eventually produced loving dreamers
picking out wedding invitations saying

Gloria & Anton.
