The Raven's Tune: Poetry

I've been walking
for miles on a road
that keeps disappearing
with each footstep

So I look about,
wondering if I am
making the right decisions
or keeping to The Way

I spy the faces of my doubt
in wind and sand and sky,
see it all shouting at me
like portents in the looking glass

And despite my best intention,
the muck and mire of thought
congeals into emotion with a current
that  threatens to sweep me
off unsteady feet

Hold fast,
I tell myself,
for the blisters on
my feet will surely heal
with time

Until then,
I march onward towards
the horizon singing
a tune only a Raven
