Monsters: Poetry

They never told me
monsters have a human side,
that when you think you
can see them plainly,
they can become human again

No one ever warned me
that you could give
your heart to one,
or fall in love with
their arms around you
without sensing the evil
that they'd done

Of all the tales they
uttered to me as a child,
there was none that stated
monsters could tell you
bedtime stories or take
you out for ice cream,
or that they could lie
beside you sleeping
peacefully as people do

No one told me the
reason for The Silence
of the Lambs:

It is because our monsters
parade around in human
skin

Sometimes,
the rest of us
are just so many sheep
amongst disguised wolves.
