Believe: Poetry

For a second,
I wanted to close
my eyes and see
the world the way
I'd always wished

No one hurt
or scared or lonely,
no one broken,
desolate or ashamed

For a minute,
I wanted the pose
to simply be
the freedom of
having been kissed

Everything rosy,
perfumed sentiment,
the exploration of
everything that was new

For an hour,
I wrote steady prose
from the heart of me
on everything I've missed

Each opportunity wasted
and misused,
unseen for what they were
and only as what I feared

And for a breath,
I said aloud to those
who searched painfully
just to find inner bliss

Without the hardships
and the deaths,
or the missteps that
time swallows:

"Believe."
