The Yellow Caution Tape & Other Thoughts: Poetry

I turned my television
off years ago
when the world ended
And the world must
have ended because
every broadcast
acts as if we're all
dead already,
walking corpses
one abduction or murder
from the grave
And how they marvel
at my youthfulness,
inquiring after the
glow to my skin
"It's simple," I say
"I stopped listening
to external negativity
every second of every day."

~

I spied the yellow
"caution" tape
on the stairs of
St. Peter's Church;
A pair of empty
shoes and a pile
of newspapers
held vigil
instead of a flock

~

I walked in through
a cemetery to the
front doors
of St. Paul's Church,
marveling as always
why there is sanitizer
at the front door
as if Pilate himself
were standing guard,
shaking his head
at the proceedings
but letting them go
on anyway

~

It's offensive,
isn't it?
The way faith
is sometimes used
to mask the evil
that mankind can do
So often we are
left dying in the snow,
in need of aid
while wolfish saviors
count the coffers
they carry on the way
to the bank...
